Earthquakes: What are they?
Earthquakes are possibly destructive movements in the ground that are rated from one to ten. Results from Earthquakes might include tsunamis, faults, and destruction of buildings and such. Earthquakes are unpredictable and could be happening right now under you! That might be an Earthquake of a one out of ten scale. In most cases when the earthquake height is like, seven or over it's probably lethal. Some people say that you should get under furniture when an earthquake occurs, others say it's best to get to an open space, either technique is probably good, but being in a wide open space is probably better, as to maybe the table or chair or whatever your hiding under could possibly break. Earthquakes are sensed by a seismometer which makes a line up and down depending on how powerful the Earthquake is. However there is no possible way to actually STOP an earthquake or predict one.
Why are there so many Earthquakes in Southeast Asia?
The reason there are so many earthquakes in South East Asia is very simple, there are two reasons, Tectonic plates, and the Ring of Fire. The Tectonic plates actually make the ring of fire so it's mostly tectonic plates. There are two main Tectonic Plates, the Eurasian plate, and the Philippine Plate, these two are constantly rubbing each other making more quakes. The Ring of Fire is made of the Pacific plate and the North America plate. The Indian and Eurasian plates also collide. These are the main causes for Earthquakes in South East Asia. Here is a picture of the Ring of Fire
How does this Affect the people of South East Asia?
Every person who lives near one of the borders of the plates, or near the coast line could be in great danger. Earthquakes constantly destroy buildings and people's homes, so there is constant rebuilding in this region. Earthquakes also affect the population of Southeast Asia. Millions of people die in this region every year from earthquakes, not to mention tsunamis, giant waves that are VERY dangerous. Other things that Earthquakes might bring are faults, flooding, starvation (because it has destroyed crops and other food sources), and poverty to tons of people.
